Swiftcover was founded in 2005 as an online-only insurance company with the aim of offering customers quick, good value car insurance. It was the first insurance company in the UK to give customers the option of printing their car insurance certificate, rather than sending it by post. AXA acquired the company in 2007 and Swiftcover continues to be a wholly owned subsidiary of AXA UK plc. This has helped Swiftcover to expand and improve their service offering to include home insurance and breakdown cover, as well as vehicle insurance. The company’s main office is based in Cobham, Surrey, with a number of call centres located across the UK.

Swiftcover offers two levels of car insurance: comprehensive cover and third party, fire and theft cover. Customers may be able to benefit from a range of additional features, depending on which policy they take out and according to certain terms. These benefits may include use of a courtesy car, a 24-hour UK-based claims line, an uninsured driver promise, stereo cover, and windscreen cover.

Swiftcover also gives customers the option of purchasing extra products in addition to their car insurance policy, depending on their requirements. These may include No Claims Discount protection and breakdown cover.

Drivers who have a dashcam installed may also be able to benefit from a discount on their Swiftcover car insurance, according to certain terms and conditions. Swiftcover was one of the first car insurance providers to reward drivers with a dashcam as they believe it makes people drive more carefully and, if they are involved in an accident, the video evidence can help to settle claims.
